Welcome!
Here at Jacobs Endodontics we strive to provide you with the very best treatment, service and overall experience. My name is Rob and I am a registered Specialist Endodontist.
I gained my Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Newcastle finishing in 2012. Following this, I worked in Manchester for 3 years as a general dentist, before embarking on Specialist training programme in Endodontics at Liverpool University from 2015-2018.
This three-year programme allowed me to hone my skills in root canal treatment and also carry out a Doctorate-level research project. My project centred on patient reported outcomes following root canal treatment, which has given me great insight into a patient journey and the importance of oral health-related quality of life.
I aim to ensure every root canal treatment is painless and thorough to try and ensure a successful outcome for your tooth.
Away from Dentistry, I was born and raised in Prestwich and live just a short walk from the practice. I am married to Monica who is a GP in North Manchester, and we have two beautiful children Sammy and Olivia who keep us very busy with all their activities!
I am a keen Manchester United fan and season ticket holder, and love to play golf when I can at Whitefield Golf Club handily placed less than 5 minutes from the practice!
I hope you enjoy the site and please get in touch with any queries you may have.
Regards,
Rob

What is root canal?
Inside every tooth, there’s a small hollow space within the root that holds soft tissue called the pulp. This space runs from the centre of the tooth down through the roots and is called the root canal system.
Think of your tooth like a pencil:
-
The outer shell (like the wooden part) is the hard enamel and dentin.
-
The core (like the pencil lead) is the root canal, where the nerves and blood vessels live.
Every tooth has a different number and shape of root canals. Some have one, some have multiple, and they can twist and turn—kind of like tiny tunnels or straws inside your tooth.
When the pulp inside the root canal gets infected or damaged (from decay, cracks, or trauma), it causes pain or an abscess.
A root canal treatment cleans out this space, removes the infection, and seals it up—so your tooth can stay in place and stay pain-free.

What does a Specialist Endodontist Do?
An endodontist focuses on saving teeth by treating problems inside the tooth. . We use advanced tools and gentle techniques to relieve pain and help your natural teeth last as long as possible.
Here are the main services we offer:
03
Endodontic Microsurgery (Apicectomy)
A minor surgical procedure to remove the tip of the root and infected tissue when there is continued infection not amenable to further root canal treatment.
01
Root Canal Treatment
04
This is the most common procedure we do. If the inside of your tooth is infected or damaged, we gently clean the root canal space, thoroughly disinfect the root canal system, and seal it—saving your tooth and relieving pain.
02
Root Canal Re-Treatment
If a tooth hisotrically had a root canal and becomes painful or symptomatic, we can redo the procedure aiming to manage the cause of the persistent symptoms. This may include managing:
- missed or blocked canals
- file separations
- perforations (inadvertent opening in the tooth creating communication with the soft tissues)

Dentoalveolar Trauma
I am here to provide urgent and longer term care of traumatic injury to your tooth/teeth, the supporting jaw bone and soft tissues. This can be extremely stressful but we aim to see you rapidly and help manage the dental trauma which may involve repositioning teeth, splinting mobilised teeth, and/or root canal treatment if required.
05
Treatment under IV Sedation
We offer IV Sedation with an experienced, gentle and all round lovely seditionist.
This will allow you to be completely relaxed during your root canal treatment and works very well for those patients who struggle with dental anxiety/phobia or a strong gag reflex.
